RIGID DIET Vs FLEXIBLE DIET

The meaning of sustainability, according to the Oxford dictionary, is "the ability to maintain a certain rate or level."


When it comes to fat loss, achieving a calorie deficit over time is a key element in achieving results. However, adhering to this is almost entirely driven by the most critical element of all - sustainability.

There are so many diet interventions which enable calorie deficit. Atkins, Keto, Carnivore diet are just some diets that can help lose weight as they create a calorie deficit by cutting out food groups. But, for obvious reasons, when considering a plan for weight loss, the only one worth considering is the one that can be consistently adhered to for long periods of time. Things to consider...

It is important to include foods that are enjoyed in every meal plan. Enjoyment increases the likelihood of continuing a process.

Realising that restricting these enjoyed foods may lead to an over consumption of these foods.

Be aware that including enjoyed foods can facilitate a supportive overall calorie target and excluding them can create uninspiring, miserable, rigid dieting mentality.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. And when absence ends, the heart pours. Ohhh is this very true in other aspects of our life. And guess what? It also applies to consumption of food. The more we restrict ourselves, the more we keep away, the more we want something, the more we think about it. And then the heart will pour when we see it, when we have it. And the over consumption begins. But there is no need for this, if we simply enjoy the foods we like in a balanced way.

Weight loss can definitely be achieved without being rigid. Flexibility, having a healthy relationship with all foods, not categorising foods as good or bad, and being able to enjoy the foods you love in a well balanced way will allow you to adapt, evolve and progress towards your goals. Sustainability = successful weight loss goals 😉
