The Advantages of Meal Planning

Many of you would have seen yesterday on my instagram story my meal planning in preparation for a bodybuilding competition. Whether you're trying to lose weight, improving your diet or preparing for a fitness / sport event, meal planning is an easy step to help you achieve your goal. There are numerous advantages of planning out your meals in advance. With anything in life...if you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

So what are some of the benefits...

* Eating healthier: usually when you get hungry, your blood sugar drops and you tend to eat whatever you can to get that surge of energy. Usually what we tend to grab are more unhealthier options especially if you are on the go. Meal planning and knowing what you will be eating next will eliminate this as you will have a balanced, nutrient dense meal or snack at your fingertips.

*Save time: knowing what you will be eating for your main meals and snacks saves time and takes the stress out of thinking what to cook or what to prepare.

*Save money: who doesn't love the idea of saving money? Meal planning is a great way to save money. Not only will you reduce the amount of restaurant and Cafe visits, but you will also save money on your shopping bill as you will buy items in bulk and stick to what's on your meal plan. This avoids impulse buying at the grocery store!

*Avoid wasting food: if you have a list according to your meal plan, you will be buying items which you know exactly what they will be used for. There is no buying products which end up sitting in the fridge beyond their use by date. Every food item you purchase has a purpose for that week.

So, whether you are meal planning for yourself or your entire family and for whatever purpose it's for, taking the time to plan your meals for the week really is worth the effort. Just set aside a little of your time each week to do it and you will soon be seeing results towards your goal.
